On the last card Cernuto called and Mizzi showed him the bad news. Mizzi had queens in the hole, giving him two pair to take down the pot. Mizzi had around 32,000 after the hand while Cernuto has dropped to 17,000. Kelly Fills Up on Phan Entering the action late, Dan Kelly called Tim Phan’s bet on fourth street and check-raised him on fifth. Kelly then led out on 6th and 7th street, getting calls from Phan. Kelly: (108)-K10910-(8) Kelly’s full house took down a solid pot, increasing his stack to 46,000. Black’s Kings Hold Andy Black completed showing the 4 and was called by the player to his left and Alexander Kostritsyn. Black bet every street except for the river and was called by Kostritsyn the whole way down. The player to his left folded on fifth street. The boards on the river looked like this. Drew Crawford — 220,000 Notable Eliminations: Joe Sebok — $2,150 Big Hands: Another Player Falls Victim to Tyner, Tyner Then Takes a Huge Hit Nancy Todd Tyner picks up some more chips as she just eliminated another player. All of the chips were in the middle preflop with Tyner holding A9 and her opponent held QJ. The board ran out A2835 to give yet another pot to Tyner. Tyner had 170,000 in chips after the hand. Later in the level a player in early position raised to 4,300 and Nancy Todd Tyner three bet. Action was folded around to her opponent who moved all in for 53,900 total. Tyner insta-called and tabled the AA. Her opponent exposed the QQ and the two players saw a flop of K107. All was good for Tyner until the Q spiked on the turn, giving her opponent a set of queens. The river bricked for Tyner and she was down to 125,000 after the hand. Tim Phan Runs a Bluff and Sent Home On the turn, the board read K536 and Tim Phan bet 9,000 and after a few moments of deliberation was called by his opponent. The river was the 5 and Phan instantly moved all in for 22,000 and was called fairly quickly by his opponent. “You got me,” said Phan as he tossed his hand face down into the muck. His opponent showed 88 and took the pot, sending home one of the tougher players left in the field. Lee Markholt Suffers Setback We picked up the action on the river with Lee Markholt betting 6,600 on a board of A9358 and was instantly called by his opponent. His opponent showed AJ, which was good against the A10 of Markholt. Markholt slipped to 24,000 at the end of the hand. Joe Sebok Falls, Drew Crawford Rises Joe Sebok shoved his last 8,000 into the middle from late position. The player on the button then made it 20,000 followed by a shove from Drew Crawford in the small blind. The player on the button immediately called for his 70,000 stack. After the J fell on the turn Negreanu bet 5,000 and both Dwan and Buchanan called. The 10 hit on the river and Negreanu and Buchanan checked to Dwan who bet 11,200. Negreanu folded but Buchanan called Dwan down and showed QJ109 for two pair. Dwan said, “Ace” implying he had a pair, and mucked. Shortly after, Dwan busted out of the tournament. No Limit Hold’em Seiver doubles through Dario After several significant preflop raises, Scott Seiver managed to get his 75,100 all in against Dario Minieri. With a board of 642 Seiver showed A6 to Dario’s AK, and the board finished with 38 to give Seiver a flush and double him up back over the day’s starting count of 150,000. Floor Ruling Costs Deeb A Little More Steve Zolotow raised to 2,100 from under the gun and Ralph Perry called behind him. Action folded around to Freddy Deeb who reraised to 12,100. Tim Phan made the call from the button and Zolotow and Perry mucked. The flop came down A104 and Deeb fired 13,000. Phan made the call and the turn was the 5. Deeb threw out a 5,000 chip and announced, “Fifteen.” While it was likely Deeb meant 15,000, Zolotow pointed out that the bet was more likely 1,500 since the chip was valued lower than 15,000. The floor was called over and ruled that the bet was 15,000. Phan made the call regardless and both players checked the 7 on the river. “Nines,” Deeb told Phan, never turning over his hand. Phan then turned over AQ when Deeb confirmed he did not have a club. Phan took down the pot with top pair and Deeb was down under 100,000. Phan improved to around 200,000. Arieh Takes Big Pot Off Phan On the very next hand at the table, Tim Phan raised to 6,500 after seat 7 made 2,100 to go. Josh Arieh then repopped it to 16,800 from the button. Seat 7 mucked but Phan made the call. The flop came down 553 and Phan checked. Arieh bet 25,000 and Phan called. The turn was the 4 and both players checked. They did the same on the 8 river and Arieh tabled 99. Phan mucked and was around 175,000 after the hand. Arieh took down the pot and was at 215,000. Binger getting into opponent’s heads Michael Binger is making his table think. First, he brought the topic of time travel into the table’s conversation. If you could time travel 20 years backward for forward, where would it be? Jeff Lisandro answered, "Who cares? As long as you know the Kentucky Derby winners. Doyle Brunson mirrored that response with, “And Super Bowl winners.” It’s all making the money, Lisandro concluded. The following hand, Binger bet 2500 on a flop of 882 and Nick Schulman folded. Limit Hold’em Binger High Fives Schulman On a board showing 75410, Michael Binger bet 3,000 into the pot and Nick Schulman made the call. The river brought the J and Binger fired another bet of 3,000. Schulman made the call once more and Binger turned over 55 for a flopped set. Schulman mucked and was down to 182,000. Binger improved his stack to 123,000. Omaha/8 Habib Bests Schulman On a flop of J97, Nick Schulman led out with 1,500 from the big blind. Hasan Habib made the call from the hijack and the 4 fell on the turn. Schulman led out again, this time for 3,000. Habib then raised it to 6,000 and Schulman made the call. The river was the 8 and Schulman checked to Habib who fired 3,000. Schulman called and Habib tabled A5103 for the nut flush and a 8-7-4-3 low. Schulman mucked and was down to around 135,000. Habib took the pot and was around 200,000. Ivey, Benyamine clash in a friendly game of poker The most entertaining table in event 2 has to be the one containing Scotty Nguyen and Chau Giang. Giang has been especially energetic, while sharing stories to keep the table smiling. During these story times there has also been some poker. On the other side of the table Phil Ivey check-called David Benyamine all the way down on a board of J74Q4. Benyamine showed AA510, prompting Ivey to say “very nice,” and muck. Lisandro Bets Out Doyle After a flop of J67, Jeffrey Lisandro bet 1,500 and Doyle Brunson made the call. Bill Chen folded his hand and the turn was the 2. Lisandro fired another bet, this one 3,000. Brunson tagged along and the two players saw the 5 fall on the river. Lisandro bet 3,000 again and Brunson had enough as he mucked his hand. Lisandro took the pot and was around 142,000 while Brunson was at 145,000. His opponent then mucked and Phan scored the victory with a pair. He was up to 123,000 after the hand. Wahlbeck Eliminates Appleman Ville Wahlbeck raised to 17,000 before the draw and Mickey Appleman moved in for 23,000 total. Wahlbeck called the 6,000 and it was time to draw. Archie Karas Doubles Up Against Binger’s Number Two Archie Karas was all in for about 40,000 and Michael Binger made the call. That’s when things got interesting. Binger was not sure how many cards to draw and the clock was eventually called by Binger himself. Binger had 60 seconds to draw or else he would be forced to stand pat. After a good amount of time, Binger finally drew one card and then Karas turned over 7-5-4-3-2 for the nuts. “I’m drawing dead,” Binger said. He then received his card and salt was added to his wound. “I caught it too!” he said as he showed 7-6-4-3-2 for the second best hand in lowball. Karas raked in the pot and was at 84,000 while Binger was down to 96,000. Sung’s stack improved to just over 60,000 in chips. Phan Chips Up The player in seat 1 raised to 5,500 from the small blind and Tim Phan made the call from the big blind. Juanda Drops Some Chips Mark Weitzman raised before the draw and action folded around to John Juanda. He then repopped it to 100,000 straight. Weitzman went into the tank for a very long time before finally sticking his remaining 40,000 into the middle. It was then time for the players to decide how many cards to draw. Zolotow With An Early Pot, Busts Out Later With 5,600 in the pot and the draw already completed, Steve Zolotow fired 3,000 into the pot and the action was on Chris Bjorin. He thought for a few moments but decided to muck his hand and surrender the pot. Zolotow raked it in and was around 32,000 in chips. Those chips did not last long, however, as he busted out shortly after. Sorel Mizzi Doubles Through Michael Binger Before the draw, Mizzi was all in for his last 10,400 and the action was on Binger. He tanked for a long time and then finally decided to throw in the call. Draw: Mizzi draws 1 card, Binger draws 1 card When Mizzi drew his card, Binger had a look of frustration on his face as he drew his card. Before even looking at his card, Binger said to Mizzi, “You win.” Mizzi turned over a K-10-8-6-2 and Binger mucked. He was down to 51,000 while Mizzi doubled up to 22,000. Mueller Loves The Three-Way Action Prior to the draw, Tim Phan raised and Jean-Robert Bellande made the call from the button. Greg Mueller followed suit from the small blind and the onus was now on the players to draw. Draw: Mueller stands pat, Phan draws 2 cards, Bellande draws 1 card Everyone checked and Mueller turned over a Jack-low, good enough to take the pot as his opponents mucked. Ellis would have none of that nonsense and raised it to 32,000. Wahlbeck thought for a few moments and then mucked. Phan was next to act and he tanked for a few moments, but thought better of messing with Ellis and mucked. It was a good thing too as Ellis showed his diamond flush and his stack ballooned to over 600,000. Tim Phan Gets Some Chips Back Eric Brooks: X-X-A Brooks completed to 8,000 and both Phan and Wong made the call. Eric Brooks: X-X-AJ Brooks bet 8,000 again and both players stuck around. Eric Brooks: X-X-AJ2 Wong led out this time for 16,000 as he hit a pair of fours. Brooks mucked and Phan stuck around. Phan: X-X-6925 Wong fired 16,000 again and Phan called. On the river Wong fired another bet of 16,000 and Phan called, showing his A75 for just a pair of fives. It was good enough as Wong mucked and Phan raked in the pot. His stack was at 290,000 while Wong was down to 60,000. Wong later busted in 15th place. Mueller Takes One Off Judah Mel Judah: X-X-Q Mel Judah completed to 8,000 and Mueller popped it to 16,000. Judah called and both players saw fourth street. Mel Judah: X-X-Q9 Mueller fired 8,000 and Judah called. Mel Judah: X-X-Q97 Mueller fired another shot, this one 16,000 and Judah had enough as he mucked his hand. His stack was down to 240,000 while Mueller was around 420,000. Matt Glantz Doubles Through Mel Judah, Busts in 14th Later Glantz: AKQA9K(2) Matt Glantz was all in for his last 37,000 and Mel Judah made the call. Judah was ahead with a pair of Queens but Glantz took the lead on fourth street when he paired his ace. Judah caught consecutive sevens for two pair, but Glantz caught another king for aces up. Judah mucked his river card and Glantz doubled up to around 75,000 while Judah was down to just under 100,000. The good news was short lived for Glantz as he busted later against Hasan Habib when he made a set a Kings on the river to best Glantz’s set of Queens. With the 7 showing Negreanu was forced to move all in for 29,000 after Tim Phan completed. Negreanu’s hand ran out (1010)7JQ4(8) but it was not good enough to top the three kings that Phan held at the end of the hand.
